World Class Pedestal Boom Rock Breakers
Pedestal Rock breaker systems as they are in the present day Demolition and Drilling Equipment offering, evolved over many years, starting way back in 1974 when Gordon Jackson, at that time working for Hubert Davies company in Johannesburg, was tasked with the project to mount a hydraulic hammer on a fixed structure to mount over a rock tip at the then Premier Diamond mine in Cullinan.
A JCB back – hoe boom was purchased and mounted onto a steel frame made from channel iron. The 45kw hydraulic power pack was incorporated within this steel frame. It is believed that this may have been the first Pedestal rock breaker system used anywhere in an underground mine.
Over a period of two years, twelve units were successfully supplied and installed on underground rock tips at this mine.
Over the years since then, the improvement in the PRBS developed and improved with new technology.
In 1987 Consolidated Rock Machinery (CRM) was formed as a new company to carry on with the rock breaker business, which it took over from Hubert Davies Co in a management buyout.
In 2006, the business was sold to Atlas Copco and many PRBS were sold throughout the world until 2016 when Atlas Copco ( Now Epiroc) sold the PRBS business to Finish company Ram -Booms, who today manufacture the Machines for the worldwide market.
Demolition and Drilling Equipment, who are today an appointed distributor for Ram-Booms to market and Distribute the Pedestal rock breaker systems under the brand MRB are proud to still have some people who’s experience dates back to the very beginning and who have intimate knowledge of the Pedestal rock breaker business.
